Paying bills accurately and on time is an important part of independent living. The Massachusetts Money Management Program matches trained, insured volunteers with older adults who need help managing their monthly finances.

There are two levels of service:
With our Bill Payer service, volunteers help you:
You make your own financial decisions and sign your own checks.
Our Representative Payee service provides a higher level of support for seniors who are no longer able to manage their own finances. With a physician’s consent, GLSS staff write and sign checks through a special checking account to manage the senior’s Social Security and other federal benefits. In this case, the Representative Payee signs all checks.
The Massachusetts Money Management Program is especially helpful for people with impaired vision, difficulty writing, limited mobility, and memory loss or dementia, as well as seniors who are recovering after an illness, returning home after a nursing home stay, homebound, or living alone.
This program is jointly sponsored by Mass Home Care, the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and AARP Massachusetts.
